The name "Igralke" comes from the Slovenian word "igralke," meaning "actresses." In Croatian, it is a coined word that translates to “women playing."

We are four friends who studied Acting and Media together at the Academy of Applied Arts in Rijeka, under the mentorship of Rade Šerbedžija and Lenka Udovički. Before that, we completed degrees in social anthropology and cultural management, comparative literature and Russian studies, and speech therapy. Since 2019, we have been developing our own projects as authors, performers, and producers. We create devised theatre inspired by personally and politically urgent issues. With each new performance, together with our collaborators, we rethink our working methodology and explore the forms of devised and documentary theatre, in which ethics and aesthetics are inseparable. Sometimes we just experiment, play, and allow new forms and processes to surprise us. Our home, the homebase of our lives, our creations, and our storytelling, is the city of Rijeka in Croatia.
