20.08.2025."Girls" are going to Zürcher Theater Spektakel!
Dear all,
this might be the greatest success for any of our plays—Girls, directed by Tjaša Črnigoj, has been selected for the Zürcher Theater Spektakel Festival in Zürich, Switzerland, and is scheduled for three performances from 19 to 21 August. On top of that, the production has been nominated for the festival’s “ZKB Patronage” award!
This festival, founded in 1980, is now one of Europe’s most important festivals of contemporary performing arts. It invites artists and ensembles from around the world and, as they put it, promotes works “marked by formal independence, innovative character and artistic ambition.” The “ZKB Patronage Award” nomination has become a synonym for “exciting and distinctive emerging talent.” Independent, innovative, ambitious? Exciting and distinctive? Count us in!
This is a huge success for an independent theatre in Croatia—and for us, it ranks alongside Grannies being presented at Theatertreffen-Stückemarkt and Girls at HAU Hebbel am Ufer in Berlin (not to mention how much we value every performance, tour, and encounter with audiences throughout our region).
Described as “moving and highly relevant”, the documentary play Girls was co-created by Tjaša Črnigoj and Tijana Todorović and co-produced by HNK Ivan pl. Zajc, Igralke, and the VIDNE Institute. Girls tells the story of growing up, first sexual experiences, and the right to bodily autonomy. This documentary theatre piece explores how sexuality is treated in different societal systems – questioning how secure the rights and freedoms once earned are today.
Special thanks to our co-producer, the VIDNE Institute from Slovenia, for organizing this international tour. We're almost ready for our first time in Switzerland!
