ZOLFANELLI (2021)

The Zolfanelli are girls caught between creating a play and rebellion, under the watchful eye of the Poet, crossing the boundaries of freedom and logic. This essayistic performance is based on real events that took place in 1919 and could happen at any time.
This sketch for a play is inspired by D'Annunzio's occupation of Rijeka in 1919-1920, when he proclaimed Rijeka a free anarchist artistic state. However, behind the proclaimed indulgence and freedom (nudism, vegetarianism, gay freedoms...) hid fascist ideology and an anti-Slavic movement. Four actresses in a metatheatrical environment will guide us into a timeless world of art, futurism, absurdity, love, and revolution.
